ZDZISŁAW CZESZEJKO-SOCHACKI

 

Judge Zdzisław Czeszejko-Sochacki was born on 10 April 1927 in Rokitno, and died on 24 May 2002.

He graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Jagiellonian University in 1951. Judge Czeszejko-Sochacki earned his juris doctor degree in 1974, and a habilitated doctor's degree in 1988. He was awarded the title of professor of legal studies in 1988. He was a professor at the Department of Constitutional Law at the University of Białystok.

Between 1951 and 1953 he trained as advocate, and then practised as an advocate from 1953 to 1993, and as a legal adviser from 1951 to 1969. He served on the Bar Council in Opole (1953-1967) consecutively as a secretary, deputy dean and, finally, dean, and then as a secretary of the Supreme Bar Council (1967-1970), dean of the Bar Council in Warsaw (1970-1972) and chairman of the Supreme Bar Council (1972-1981).

He was a Deputy to the Sejm of the Polish People's Republic. Between 1986 and 1990 he was Polish ambassador to Switzerland.

He was a member of the Polish Lawyers Association, and the chairman of its general board from 1981 to 1985.

He is an author of 39 monographs and studies, and over 100 other scholarly publications.

Zdzisław Czeszejko-Sochacki was a Judge of the Constitutional Tribunal from 1993 to 2001.
