Bohdan Zdziennicki

                               President of the Constitutional Tribunal


Judge Bohdan Zdziennicki was born on 8 January 1944 in Augustów. Graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Warsaw University in 1966, and started work at the Legal Studies Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In 1969 awared a judge certificate. In 1970 started scientific research at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Warsaw University, Chair of Agricultural Law. In 1974 he was awared his juris doctor's degree, and his doctor's thesis received an award in a national competition of the editors of "Państwo i Prawo" [The State and the Law]. Since 1977 employed at the Warsaw University. At the same time he continued his work in the field of legislation in the Ministry of Justice. In 1979 appointed Deputy Director of the Legal Department at the Ministry of Justice, supervised legislative works on agricultural law, civil law and economic law. From 1990 to 1997 member of the Board of the Polish Lawyers Association. From 1994 to 1997 Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Justice, responsible for legislation. Member of the Presidium and Secretary of the Legislative Council of the Prime Minister. For twenty years a judge of the Supreme Administrative Court.

Member of the Polish Legislation Society, and of the Civil Law Reform Committee of the Ministry of Justice. In 1980's member of Anti-monopoly Council of the Minister of Finance.

A lecturer at the post-graduate studies and Ph.D. studies at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Warsaw University.

Author of numerous publications on agricultural law, civil law, administrative law, economic law, system of administration of justice, and theory of legislation.

In November 2001 the Sejm of the Republic of Poland appointed him judge of the Constitutional Tribunal. In June 2008 the President of the Republic appointed him President of the Constitutional Tribunal.
