Justice Wojciech Sokolewicz was born on 27 March 1931 in Warsaw. Died on 13 March 2012. He graduated from the Faculty of Law of Warsaw University in 1954. Judge Sokolewicz earned his juris doctor degree in 1964, a habilitated doctor's degree in 1968, the title of professor in 1974, and since 1987 has been full professor. He was director of the Institute of Legal Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences and head of a team for research on the US institutions and political-legal doctrines in 1969-1974. From 1983 to 1992 he headed the constitutional law section of the Institute of Legal Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He was a member of the Legislative Council of the Prime Minister in 1984-1992, and an expert of the Constitutional Committee of the Sejm in 1990-1991. He is a member of the Polish Lawyers Association, Polish Society of Constitutional Law, and a corresponding member of the Academie Internationale de Droit Comparé in Paris. He is an author or co-author of 431 publications, including 14 books. Wojciech Sokolewicz was a Justice of the Constitutional Tribunal from 1993 to 1999. |
