Judge Tomasz Dybowski was born on 29 December 1923 in Białystok. He died on 18 October 2009.

He graduated from the Faculty of Law of Warsaw University in 1949. Judge Dybowski earned his juris doctor degree in 1960, and a habilitated doctor's degree in 1969. He was awarded the title of professor in 1980, and became full professor in 1993. He is a professor emeritus of the Warsaw University and a professor at Stefan Wyszyński University.

He was a member of: the Committee on Legal Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Legislative Commission of the Prime Minister, the Committee on Reform of Civil Law of the Minister of Justice, and the Political and Social Council of the Prime Minister.

He is a prolific author of monographs and other scholarly publications in the field of civil law.

Tomasz Dybowski was a Judge of the Constitutional Tribunal from 1989 to 1997.
