Judge Andrzej M±czyński was born on 3 July 1945 in Nowy S±cz. He graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Jagiellonian University in 1968. He received a judge certificate in 1970. Judge M¹czyński earned his juris doctor degree in 1974, and a habilitated doctor's degree in 1980. He has been professor of legal sciences since 1989, and a full professor since 1995. He heads a newly established Chair of International Private Law of the Jagiellonian University.
Since 1993 a member of the Team of Experts on Law and Legislation of the Prime Minister, and later a member of the Legislative Council until 1997. He took part in the work of the Committee on Reform of Civil Law and the Committee on Codification of Civil Law.
He was a member of the Committee of Law Studies of the Cracow Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences from 1984 to 1995. Judge M±czyński was elected as a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Arts [PAU] in 1996.
He is a member of editorial boards and editorial advisory boards of many legal journals locally and internationally. He is a prolific author of scholarly publications in the field of civil law and international private law and an expert of the Commission on European Family Law.
Andrzej M±czyński was a Judge of the Constitutional Tribunal from 1997 to 2006 and Vice-president of the Constitutional Tribunal from 2001 to 2006.
He has been a member of the National Electoral Commission since January 1998.
