Judge Ewa Łętowska was born
on 22 March 1940 in Warsaw. Graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Warsaw
University in 1962. Between 1963 and 1965 completed a judicial training. Awared her juris doctor's degree in 1968, and a habilitated doctor’s degree in civil law in
1975. A full professor since 1986. In the years 1977 - 1987 Head at the Legal Studies Institute of the Polish
Academy of Sciences.
From 1987 to 1992 the
Commissioner for Citizens’ Rights and, from 1999 to 2002, a judge
of the Supreme Administrative Court.
A correspondent
member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Arts, a member of the
Académie de Droit Comparé in Paris, of the Helsinki Committee (membership
suspended), and the International Commission of Jurists (Geneva).
In 1993 nominated for the
Women of the Year Award. She has received many awards for her educational
activity in the field of law. In 1995 awareded the Friedrich Ebert
Foundation prize. Since 1993 an expert of the Standards Application Committee
of the International Labour Organization. Lecturer at the Sorbonne Univeristy in Paris in 1994.
Awarded the
Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
Author of 19 books on
civil and constitutional law and over 300 papers, articles and glosses.
Ewa Łętowska
was a Justice of the Constitutional Tribunal from 2002 to 2011.
