Maria Gintowt-Jankowicz

 

Judge Maria Gintowt-Jankowicz was born on 1 July 1939 in Warsaw. Graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Warsaw University in 1962 and since a lecturer at the Department of Finance and Financial Law.

After having attended a two-year court training, passed her final judge's qualifying exam in 1966. Awarded her juris doctor's degree in 1971, and habilitated doctor's degree in 1980. From 1984 to 1990 the organizer and Head of the Postgraduate Studies Programme on Taxes and Tax Law (for fiscal administration senior management staff) in the Faculty of Law of the Warsaw University.

Co-founder of the National School of Public Administration and its first Director (from 1990 to 2006).

In the period 1989-1992 member of the Legislative Council of the Prime Minister, and member of consecutive teams, councils and committees for the public administration reform. Since 1999 Vice-Chairman of the Civil Service Council, a statutory body directly suborinated to the Prime Minister.

Member of numerous international organizations and initiatives. In 2005 awarded the 10-th Alexis de Tocqueville Prize of the European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA) in Maastricht. Awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta as well as French and Italian national orders.

Author of numerous publications on financial law and administrative aspects of transformation in Central and Eastern European countries.

In October 2006 the Sejm of the Republic of Poland appointed her judge of the Constitutional Tribunal.
