ANDRZEJ ZOLL

 

Judge Andrzej Zoll was born on 27 May 1942 in Sieniawa. He graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Jagiellonian University in 1964. Judge Zoll earned his juris doctor degree in 1968, and a habilitated doctor's title in 1973. In 1988 he became professor. From 1994 he is a head of the Chair of Criminal Law of the Jagiellonian University.

In 1989 he took part in the "round table" negotiations.  He was a member and the Chairman of the National Electoral Commission. In 1989-1995 he was deputy chairman of the Committee for Reform of Penal Law.

From 1997 to 2000 he was a member and the chairman of the Legislative Council of the Prime Minister.

He is a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the European Art and Science Academy in Salzburg. He is a doctor honoris causa of the University of Mainz.

He is an author of 3 monographs and above 150 other scholarly publications in the area of penal code and constitutional law.

In 2000 - 2006 he was the Commissioner for Citizens' Rights.

Andrzej Zoll was a Judge of the Constitutional Tribunal from 1989 to 1997 and President of the Constitutional Tribunal from 1993 to 1997.
