A. Jamróz   Adam Jamróz

 

Judge Adam Jamróz was born on 5 December 1945 in Jaworzno. Graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Jagiellonian University in Cracow in 1968. Awared his political sciences doctor's degree in 1974 and a habilitated political sciences doctor's degree in 1982. A professor of legal sciences since 1991, and full professor of legal sciences since 1995. Since 1987 Head of the Department of State and Law Theory of the Faculty of Law; in the years 1987-1990 Deputy Dean and in 1990-1996 Dean of the Faculty of Law. From 1996 till 1997 Deputy Rector for the Warsaw University's branch in Bia³ystok. The first Rector of Bia³ystok University from 1997 to 2001.

From October 2001 till February 2002 Secretary of State in the Ministry of National Education and Sport, from October 2001 till 10 July 2003 Deputy to the Senat of the 5th term of office. Member of the Legal Studies Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences from 1996 till 1999, and from 1996 till 2003 member of the Political Sciences Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Author of over 100 scientific publications, including 20 books on political systems, constitutional law, contemporary political and legal ideas and legal theory. His recent attainments concerns problems of state and law, democratic state, democracy and constitution (observance and administration).

His book "Contemporary Democracy. An Introduction" was awared the Warsaw University Franciszek Ryszka Prize. In 2001 he received the Doctor Honoris Causa title from the University in Grodno. Since 2002 member of the European Academy of Science, Arts and Literature in Paris. In June 2003 awarded the Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honour distinction by the President of the French Republic.

In July 2003 the Sejm of the Republic of Poland appointed him judge of the Constitutional Tribunal.
